Artist's Description
Wild bison in the city? No way! If you travel through Commerce City, a not too pretty, strip mall filled, suburb close to Denver, you can find a bit of untouched prairie at the old, one time extremely toxic and polluted Rocky Mountain Arsenal. There are many types of wildlife that thrive at this wildlife preserve, including borrowing owls, coyote, prairie dogs, fox, both bald and golden eagles and many other birds of prey, but most excitingly, wild bison. The bison viewing area is the only part of this preserve that you must stay in your vehicle, but the bison are free roaming and get very close to your car, as we found out! Pretty amazing creatures, that once were so abundant in the west, are mostly raised by ranchers now.

When I first photographed, I worked in film, and almost exclusively black and white. I did portraits then,...
