Artist's Description

Bee balm is one of the most abundant wildflowers in Colorado, and one of my favorites. The wild bee balm in Colorado is mostly purple and like many people, I also have them growing in my garden. These "Raggedy Anns" are crucial right now because of our dwindling bee populations! If they are cultivated in gardens and protected in the wild, bees can always have a ready supply of bee balm. My garden balm is a great attraction to bees, much to my delight! This balm was taken at one of our many state parks in Colorado. This park is a great wildlife area, where hikers can not only see a myriad of wildflowers, but wildlife such as bear, elk, coyotes, birds of prey, deer, and elusive mountain lions!

When I first photographed, I worked in film, and almost exclusively black and white. I did portraits then,...
