Artist's Description

Pike National Forest is full of the most beautiful sandstone rock formations, and as I set out on my hike that afternoon, it was sunny and warm, so I expected to have a long hike where I would photograph rocks during a beautiful sunset! Instead the weather unexpectedly, (although quite expectantly for Colorado), turned dark, cloudy, and windy. Undaunted, I continued to photograph until the rain came! Although I was hoping for a beautiful sunset, with warm, glowing light, I received from the heavens a dark dramatic sky. This is one of my most favorite places in Colorado, and although it is a tough hike, I have and will return to this area my more times. I always find new and interesting rocks to photograph!

When I first photographed, I worked in film, and almost exclusively black and white. I did portraits then,...
