Artist's Description
The newest state park in Colorado, Staunton Park is an absolute beauty! This park was once owned by a family that wanted the land to become a protected Jefferson County park. As you traverse the trails it becomes quite apparent that this is a piece of healthy pristine wilderness--everywhere there are elk and deer droppings, and many apparent bones left from mountain lion kills. As well, the conifer forests are lush and green, filled with lady slipper orchids. This park almost did not open becuase of financial concerns within Jefferson County, but luckily it did open! With all of the housing developements and urban sprawl underway in Colorado, at least this huge piece of land will be preserved!
